Parking @ Gunwharf Quays

I should have posted this just after Christmas really but totally forgot until Saturday when I visited Gunwharf Quays, Pourtsmouth, to have a look at the outlet shops and to make use of one of the many 241 restaurant vouchers that are floating about just now.

You know what it’s like you go to a place that is always busy and have to stealth around the car park looking for spaces, slowly crawling along making your way to where that couple laden with bags are heading only to find out they are not leaving just merely dropping their bags off to lighten the load! Going round and round in circles and spotting a space but it just too late as you’ve passed the turning now. Frustration is at a maximum.

So you can imagine my excitement on entry to Gunwharf Quays and seeing this new system in place… I was like a kid in a sweet shop. Quite why I got so excited I’m not sure, but I did and here is the reason:

At Gunwharf Quays they have a new information system that tells you where there are spaces available. Each parking space has a sensor above it in the middle of the space. At the front edge of the space there is a light which is either green for free or red for in use… as you drive down each aisle has an electronic sign telling you how many spaces are free in that aisle and how many space are free up ahead, then as you look down the aisle you can see exactly where the spaces are. As cars park up these signs are updated real time. No more going down an aisle thinking you have spotted a space only to be fooled by a small mini or sports car tucked right at the back!

What are the red & green lights in the car park?
This is the bay indicator system which monitors every parking space and gives us an accurate reading of the car park capacity at all times. We also have over 30 electronic signs which are integrated into this system to direct you to an available space.

It’s a brilliant system, must have cost a fortune to install, and I’ve never seen it anywhere else but I really hope more car parks will adapt this technology!

Free Pizza @ Pizza Express

I was pleased to see in my inbox this morning a 2 for 1 main meal offer from pizza express. Lets face it they make the best pizzas, in my opinion anyway!

What makes it even better is that with this promotion it’s the most expensive meal that is free, you rarely get that theses days but I guess they have to do something to get bums on seats. The voucher is valid Anytime from 5th January to 29th January 2009 So print off the voucher and fill your boots.
