Filofax Personal Refils

In the past few years I haven’t been making the most out of my filofax personal. Partly due to the use of a symbian smartphone and partly because of the cost of refills that don’t really fit my needs. So while I have some time on my hands I set about researching templates for making your own filofax personal pages.
By following various links on links I stumbled upon www.diyplanner.com where I found lots of information in a hard to decipher jumble. Having spent a couple of hours picking through the information I had an idea what I was looking to do. I reviewed some templates already on the site to see if there was anything that I could use, unfortunately not. There seemed to be a shortage of templates suitable for the filofax personal which has pages 95 mm x 171 mm (3.75″ x 6.75″) So I set about creating my own personal concept/design.
I work part time, two days a week, in a job that is fairly straight forward in that I don’t need to have my own records of what I do and I leave all my work behind when I come home. The rest of the week I’m a stay at home mum, so ideally a diary with a week to a page that I could easily glance at and see what was going on for the rest of the week. I also like to have little reminders of things I need to do, otherwise I tend to forget. There lye’s the basis of my personalised diary refills.
I set about drawing up what I required, I wanted something simple so there were very few refinements once I’d settled on a layout having put pencil to paper and scribbled a few ideas down. Having got the layout sorted I needed to work out how I was going to print them. Fortunately for me I have a Canon MP600 multi function printer which has a duplex facility. A few test prints with some templates I found on the diy planner site got me slightly confused as when printing in duplex mode they didn’t line up if both sides were the correct way up. However, if one side was upside down they did line up… this was no good to me! so through more testing I found that if set them two across (landscape) but butted the inside edges together and gave the same margin on both sides and top and bottom they would duplex print perfectly and then only need 5 cuts to trim down instead of 6. Once that was figured out it was onto the tiresome laborious task of inputting the dates. Simple as it sounds I had to first work out how the pages needed to be set out in order that they would duplex print properly… this created another headache so I left it and went onto creating a new contacts template.
You never get enough space on the pre made ones for all the contact details you require. So I made bigger and better ones and of course you only have to set it up once then duplicate it and duplex print as many times as you require. Nice and easy! With my mind a bit fresher from the nice and easy contact template I was able to concentrate and work out how I had to set up each page… number time 356 days to input. With that all done I then thought about all the Holidays and events so a quick Google produced 2009’s Bank Holidays/Saints Days/Religious Holidays etc… Another run through putting them in place and the template was done. I did also go back through again to add in my own personal stuff like birthdays, anniversary’s etc..
So after all my hard work I give to you a 2009 week to page diary with to do list and a contact template with plenty of room for all the info you need! Remember these are for the filofax personal with pages that are 95 mm x 171 mm (3.75″ x 6.75″) Watch out for more templates for the filofax personal. And of course now I have done the hard work the 2010 diary should be a lot simpler to produce!
